Blackwater Alert™ System

When installing a BlackwaterAlert™ System, the alarm should be installed so the release port angles down towards the floor. In addition, the plumber must install a valve on the alarm's 1.5-inch diameter port.
All connections should be taped with teflon tape or glued with PVC glue. A threaded adaptor will allow for the unit to be easily removed for waste line access by a plumber. The BlackwaterAlert™ System should be protected from rain and snow if installed outside.

The installation guide and battery replacement instructions are included in the packaging along with a Phillips screwdriver. A battery is included and disconnected during shipment. Using the supplied screwdriver, the battery is easily attached.

Step By Step Installation Instructions

For the Blackwater Alert™ System

These alarms can be easily installed by a plumber into a waste cleanout fitting.

The alarm will trigger when a backup of sewage occurs in your waste line.

The alarm can be synchronized with the sound feature of Alexa® Guard or other smartphone alerts to inform you of a sewer backup

Suggested Installation:

  • Your plumber is the best choice for installing this unit. If your waste line is made of PVC, brass, cast iron, or copper, a Fernco (rubber) coupling is a good choice for connecting the Blackwater unit to your cleanout.
  • Using an appropriately sized PVC adapter fitting, thread the unit to the waste line cleanout after removing the waste line cleanout plug. PVC tape or pipe sealant should be used on all connections to the waste line.
  • Place the unit in a position to allow for easy battery access and install with the release port facing downward or sideways.
  • Your alarm is powered by a 9-volt battery, which is required to be disconnected during shipping. It will need attachment; one of the screws is not fully screwed into the bottom of the cover indicating that the battery is not connected. The battery is located under the cover.
  • Back off one small screw located on the bottom face of the unit and the face plate will “hinge” open, exposing the battery.
  • The faceplate does not have to be removed, nor does the bottom screw have to be removed to replace the battery.
  • After the battery is connected and the “hinge” closed, the red “active” light will flash every ~30 seconds. This indicates that the unit is activated and working.
  • Avoid jamming objects into the bladder since damage will occur and the unit will not activate properly.
  • A 1.5” or smaller diameter PVC ball release valve will need to be purchased separately and installed on the drain port. This must be a water-tight installation. A plumber or DIYer can do this.
  • The release valve allows you to drain any waste fluids (blackwater) that may be in the pipes prior to removing blockage from the sewer line.
  • Once all of the connections are properly completed, the unit is protecting your home/business with an early-warning alarm.
  • NOTE: After installation, if the unit alarms, STOP USING YOUR WATER, and call your plumber. (Remember Water Treatment systems on a timer continue to flush discharge water into your sewer line)

Compatible Texting option:
